He started his career in 1983, when he completed his super-specialization from Department of Neuro-Surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He has since then practiced as a neurosurgeon excelling in his field.

He was Head of the Department of Neurology for 23 years. He has been instrumental in developing the teaching programme in the specialty of Neurology in India. He is interested in patient care as well as research.
